Men's Skincare Routine: 5 Products, 5 Minutes
The simplest evidence-based men's skincare routine. Five products, five minutes. The same molecules that work for everyone else.

The 5-product men’s skincare routine: gentle cleanser, retinoid (Differin), moisturizer, sunscreen SPF 30+, and optional vitamin C. Morning and evening application takes 5 minutes total. Costs $40-60/month for the complete stack.
You don’t need a 10-step Korean routine. Here’s the entire evidence-based men’s skincare protocol in 5 products.
The full routine
Morning (3 minutes):
- Cleanse → CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
- Moisturize → CeraVe PM Lotion
- SPF → EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46
Evening (4 minutes):
- Cleanse → CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
- Wait 15-20 minutes (skin must be dry)
- Retinoid → Differin Adapalene 0.1% (pea-sized)
- Moisturize → CeraVe PM Lotion
That’s it. Five products, both routines, every day.

Why these specific products
These five products combined cover every evidence-based skincare benefit: barrier maintenance (cleanser + moisturizer), cell turnover and collagen (retinoid), UV protection (sunscreen), and antioxidant defense (vitamin C). No other products meaningfully add to results.
What you don’t need:
- ❌ Toner (modern cleansers don’t leave residue)
- ❌ Eye cream (face moisturizer works fine on the eye area)
- ❌ Face mask (no consistent benefit)
- ❌ Anti-aging serum collections (vitamin C + retinoid is the proven combo)
- ❌ “Men’s” branded products (they’re the same molecules at higher prices)
How to start without overwhelming yourself
Don’t add all 5 at once. Add one product per week:
- Week 1: Add SPF (the most important by far)
- Week 2: Add cleanser
- Week 3: Add moisturizer
- Week 4: Add Differin (twice weekly to start)
- Week 5+: Optional vitamin C in the morning
By week 6 you have a complete routine and your skin is already changing.
Frequently asked
Do I really need to wash my face twice a day? +
Yes — but not aggressively. Gentle cleanser AM (rinse off overnight oil) and PM (remove sunscreen + sweat). Bar soap dries skin.
Can I just use moisturizer with SPF in it? +
Combo products usually have inadequate SPF (you'd need to apply 4x the normal amount to hit SPF 30). Use separate moisturizer + sunscreen.
What if I have a beard? +
Apply all products to the skin around and under the beard. The beard area is often the most damaged because it's neglected.
How long until I see results? +
Skin tone improvement at 4-6 weeks. Texture at 8-10 weeks. Anti-aging visible at 6 months. Stay consistent.
